Blood cells view the beads as a foreign object and will begin clotting if the combination of anticoagulant/heparin and the rate of blood flow is not sufficient. Same as with folks with artificial/metal plastic valves. Clots form without coumadin brilinta eliquis etc. I took the comments regarding clotting in the webinar in our device, the negative ones, to be directed towards lack of adequate blood flow and not Covid. And it was only the one doc who was negative. It was emphasized that ECMO blood volume rate was sufficient to avoid this. Unfortunately I have too much personal experience with two valve replacements, two bouts of endocarditis, and a minor stroke when my metal valve threw a clot.
