Whenever you have clear cut evidence that a drug works, you have an ethical obligation to immediately let the people on the placebo know so they can have access. And all of the other trials taking place now have a new standard of care.

The Gilead drug Remdesivir study was a randomized placebo controlled trial, with 1090 patients.

The primary endpoint was TIME TO DISCHARGE. The time went from 15 days (placebo) to 11 days (drug).

He called this clear cut, significant effect with a P value of 0.001.
The mortality rate result was not statistically significant yet, but trending positive, as it was 8% vs placebo 11%. Data mining would now be taking place. (Called by some here 'cherry picking'.)

FDA still needs to approve it, but he is sure they will move expeditiously. But he would not give an approval date.
