Even if he is negotiating a BO, he most likely wont be in any position to let you know.

There are such things as NDAs, etc. IF there's a buyout the first you'll hear of it is a rumor / leak - not from the CEO's mouth during a conference call. Unless it's a hostile takeover (but even then the rumors and leaks happen first before any official announcement).
