Hmm, being not really a fan of afterwards transfiguration I have to ask if our european picture of him is totally wrong. Besides watergate he is seen as a president with a tight near to the mob. Are we wrong about that?

You're wrong if you think Nixon had mob ties, or was even that kind of person. He wasn't, really, though he was attracted to sleazy rich guys like Bebe Rebozo. He was very intelligent, but as other have said, he felt inferior for no real reason--though he was resentful because he didn't have an Ivy League education--and over the years he became increasingly paranoid. He also had a nasty streak, and didn't hesitate to smear opponents or use dirty tricks against them.

By the time he became involved in Watergate, he was a successful president on his way to a big second term win. He was also a wealthy man with a nice family. But he ruined it all by ordering what came to be called a "third rate burglary". I don't think he ever really accepted the fact that it WAS his fault. Like Trumpy, he always blamed others for problems he'd created.

But he did some good things. Though it may not seem so now, his trip to China was a big deal. He created the EPA. Many of us hated him for the way he handled Vietnam, which was appalling, but had it not been for Watergate, he'd no doubt have enjoyed decades of contentment as an elder statesman.

One couldn't say Trumpty's done any good things. Nor could one say that he's intelligent. What he has in common with Nixon is insecurity and paranoia.
