IMO the license excution is key because of the rate. The more 3G rates that get set on IDCC terms (1.5% or better) the stronger the position down the road. I still beleive that IDCC may end up in court over 3G rates. It will be hard for another company to argue for a lower rate if a series of companies already agreed to a higher one.

In response to your comment about Panasonic signing up early without a 3G product launch. What about the fact that the contract signing gave them access to designs which helped them build their products. Does IDCC provide blueprints for companies to build technology? If I sign a license wouldn't I be able to access engineering talent to help my product get launched?
