The trouble is, CT, that KD may genuinely have had entirely personal reasons for upping and leaving, that had nothing to do with the trial or anything else to do with the company.
Perhaps unlikely, but may have been the case.
And if questions are asked about an individual staff member, the answer we will get is 'KD (or whoever is being referred to) made his decision largely for personal reasons, and thus I cannot go into further details.'

There might be some mileage in phrasing things differently.

Maybe; 'In what ways was NWBO able to benefit from the experience and skillset that KD brought to the company during his period of tenure?'
