S&P 500 futures now trade 28 points, or 1.1%, above fair value heading into the open for their best levels of the morning. Today's positive bias follows last week's strong rebound and comes despite the White House extending federal social distance guidelines through April 30.
The economy may be shuttered for a while longer, but the market may be showing some hope that these shutdown efforts may speed a return to normalcy by limiting the spread of the coronavirus. President Trump recently told Fox News that the U.S. could be on way to recovery starting June 1.
Separately, Abbott Labs (ABT 81.74, +7.18, +9.6%) is launching a five-minute COVID-19 test, while Johnson & Johnson (JNJ 127.50, +4.28, +3.5%) said it has selected a lead COVID-19 vaccine candidate that could be tested in clinical trials by September. Shares of both companies are up noticeably in pre-market action
