Car question...

I went to Advanced Auto Parts today to get my wife's alternator checked today (because we've been having problems with her car). Every once in a while it won't start and sometimes it will just cut out when driving down the road (I think I've already mentioned this on the board).

Well I started it up to test the alternator and bingo...it didn't work! I was thinking..."This is so perfect. Now I have somebody to tell what it is, while it's actually happening!"

He said (obviously) that it was no way that it was the alternator and that it was probably something else, so he started messing around with it and pulled out the first spark plug and it was covered in oil. Then it was pretty funny...he said "I've never seen that before!" He told me that we had a valve cover gasket that had a leak in it and needed to be replaced. He also told me that I needed to replace the plugs and the spark plug wires.

Do you guys agree with the diagnosis and should I try to do this myself (since I'm definitely no car guy). I get happy when I install a battery right!
