I think its an age thing more than anything. My mom is a total leftie - glued to CNN and MSNBC - but she has the same attitude at age 92 as your dad has.

They've lived through multiple wars. Through polio. Measles. Have had good health and good medicine all their lives - and feel overly safe and secure in their environment.

I'm a prepper (a light one) and have been for years. I have a several month food supply in my basement with a 25 year shelf life for emergencies and a portable water filtration system for if things really go south. She's tried to talk me into getting rid of my 'insurance policy' for years - to include telling me to throw it away because it's old in the last email I got from her..... after I recommended she get a few weeks supplies put away at home if only to reduce her exposure to outside elements. She frou-frou'ed the suggestion.

I sat on a bridge stuck in DC traffic on 9/11 and watched flames leap from the pentagon hundreds of feet towards the sky. Bad things happen. It's always better to be prepared than not.

Unfortunately - not everyone feels the same way....and the sad thing is that there is no accountability for them if their cavalier behavior ends up causing someone else's illness or death.
