Below is a note from the IT team at Johns Hopkins. This data reporting issue first showed up with Italy and Spain last night, (probably others I don't track). The problem is now apparent in US state level reporting. They're working through it. New Mexico has 10 cases, and those cases just reappeared on the map an hour ago. Colorado has 77 cases, none are showing up on the JHU map. I can't imagine the hours these people are putting in. Without them and all of the good folks at the various state levels, we would be blind to the data now.

The CDC is already overwhelmed with regard to confirming cases. They're only reporting cases from 12 states. I point this out not to damn the CDC who is doing everything they can with the resources they have. This was a huge mistake the administration made in 2018 but hindsight is 20/20 and after this I'm sure we'll be better prepared...um unless the same guy is there. He actually said today that he didn't know why the department was axed...he said, you'll have to ask the people in charge. I'm sorry, real conservatives obsess over detail. I know I do.

There's another crack showing up in our for profit health care system and that is hospital beds. Hospitals in the US are now designed to be almost completely full all the time, like airline seats. And 99.9% of the time that works but we don't have a contingency plan for this. We need a public funded backup plan not just throwing dollars at the problem like we'll do now. Yeah, editorial, back to the facts as we know them.

The US numbers and European numbers are not correct, hopefully they'll work this out by tomorrow. US numbers are still up over 20% from yesterday's correct numbers but it's actually much higher as states are beginning to test. Colorado has one drive up location in Denver. All you need is a note from your doctor that you have temperature/cough. There is a line limit of 150 cars. Yeah, you could be in line all day...it's like being a black voter in Houston.

Preliminary numbers are out for morbidity and mortality rates from Italy. Morbidity, the virus is mostly an equal opportunity agent. But, under 30, no problem. Over 60, don't get sick. That's most of us here shelter in place as much as possible. This should mostly pass in the US by the end of April. Maybe the president's hunch is correct.
