Reading up on Docsis 3.1 lately trying to figure out how widely implemented they are— found a few interesting things—

From a 2015 article, source doesn’t seem 100% rock solid, but it’s worth reading.

https://www.fiercevideo.com/special-report/from-comcast-to-arris-winners-and-losers-cable-industry-s-move-to-docsis-3-1-and-1

“Comcast, the nation's largest cable operator, plans to be at the forefront of DOCSIS 3.1. The company is currently testing the technology with an eye toward launching it next year.

"Our intent is to scale it through our footprint through 2016," said Robert Howald, Comcast's VP of network architecture. "We want to get it across the footprint very quickly," Howald added, noting that the company hopes to have the technology deployed across its entire U.S. network footprint in the next 2-3 years. "We're shooting for two years," he said.“

“ Along those lines, Comcast in May announced a DOCSIS 3.1 modem that it said will go into production this year and will be available to customers in early 2016”

This next one is an old article, but some poignant thoughts...

https://www.google.com/amp/s/arstechnica.com/information-technology/2013/12/why-comcast-and-other-cable-isps-arent-selling-you-gigabit-internet/%3famp=1Yeah

“While DOCSIS 3.1 products may be available next year, the first deployments to home customers aren't expected until at least 2015. A CableLabs presentation says that trends indicate there will be "1Gbps premium offers in 2016 or later”

“Douglas said Comcast's current speeds already satisfy customer demand. Only 34 percent of Comcast residential customers choose a speed tier faster than 25Mbps, he said.”

And we’ve talked about them switching to fiber as opposed buying our patents.
.
“The type of customer who could use an entire gigabit at a time does exist. As one Ars commenter noted, a gigabit could be used up in a household full of HDTVs streaming content from the cloud, computers downloading torrents, video game consoles, personal Web servers, Voice over IP, and computers updating themselves“

I’d say that customer exists these days...

May of 2017 “Comcast is pushing 3.1”

https://www.broadbandtechreport.com/docsis/article/16448820/docsis-31-comcast-makes-a-big-push

“ Among the four biggest U.S. MSOs - Comcast, Charter, Cox and Altice USA - only Comcast has deployed DOCSIS 3.1 on a large scale. Altice, which has numerous gigabit deployments based on DOCSIS 3.0 in its Suddenlink markets, has said it plans to skip DOCSIS 3.1 and go straight to fiber-to-the-home (FTTH). Charter still seems to have its hands full with integrating its Time Warner Cable and Bright House acquisitions and has indicated no immediate plans to do anything with DOCSIS 3.1. Cox has said it wants to deploy DOCSIS 3.1, but hasn't announced any deployments; the company's current G1GABLAST gigabit service is based on RFoG.”

Not much in this one, but by June of 19’ Comcast said they’re mostly done with their 3.1 rollover

This seems to have the data were after, but it’s $2500 for the report...

Then from this 2018 article— https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/sales-of-docsis-cable-equipment-grew-for-fifth-consecutive-quarter-according-to-delloro-group-300710087.html

“Most of the largest cable operators, including Comcast, Charter, and Liberty Global, have deployed DOCSIS 3.1 beyond 50 percent of their network footprint. In many cases, DOCSIS 3.1 exceeds 85 percent of the network footprint today. Cable operators are continuing to invest in CCAP systems from vendors such as Arris, Cisco, and Casa to complete the transition.“

I’m going to keep hunting but I feel like we can deduce that 2012-2016 was most all 3.0, 2017 they are heavily introduced, and 18, 19, 20 3.1 may be the dominant player.
