The more research I do, the more I'm leaning towards agreeing with your assessment... ie; my 8 year old machine with Win 7 is still more than capable enough to serve my needs.

Almost everything I read on line about computer building is directed at gaming or another specialty. I wonder what the claimed improvements and advantages that all the latest & greatest high end performance stuff means to an average computer user like myself.

It's sorta like like owning a Maclaren or other super car but never driving over 55 mph..
