I'm with United Health Care. I think they have different policies depending on the employer.

I work for a major airline. I'm on Vascepa but paying out of pocket. United requires prior authorization. Last year my triglycerides were about 140. After 5 months on Vascepa, triglycerides lowered to about 106.

It's working, but in the eyes of the insurance company, I never needed it. (no heart risk factors, tyiglycerides below 150).

With a coupon, I have to pay about $190 per month for a full dose. I believe its better for my health but most people would not pay that much out of pocket.

Of course, if I avoid or significantly delay a heart event, dementia, have a better quality of life due to low inflammation, etc. its certainly money well spent. How to convince insurance companies, public etc... A BP who believed in it, and could highlight the overall savings to the healthcare system, would have the best chance.
