I'm new to Medicare. I just received my packet of info for Medicare from Florida-Blue (Blue Cross-Blue Shield).

I live in Orange County (Orlando area) and I selected 'Blue Medicare Value' plan which is a PPO.

I am not prescribed any medications at this time, but thought I would browse thru the Comprehensive Formulary booklet to check on the status of VASCEPA. Reading thru 80 pages of drugs, I find out that VASCEPA is not listed. I decided to contact Florida Blue to see if it may have been added after the printing date of the booklet.

The representative told me that VASCEPA is 'non-formulary'. The doctor could request it for me. If I got the prescription, it would cost me $100 per month after deductible. Representative told me it is classified as 'Tier 4'.

My specific plan states that the information given to me is for plan participants in Orange County (Orlando area). Not being familiar with Medicare, I find it almost amusing that the copays and deductibles are so different from adjacent counties. What's up with that?

Anyhow, just passing along update on Vascepa coverage down here in 'retirement' land!

Cheers!
