Hey dmiller, I am assuming you qualify as a professional trader so that changes your capital gain/loss treatment, yes?

Once you take that off the table, it's a different ballgame in terms of trading vs investing. A BIG virtue of investing (not trading) for ordinary folks is long-term vs short-term capital gains... and no carrying back losses.
