It appears that they are to hear and judge the evidence and render a verdict

If you were on trial and you felt you were innocent, would you want witnesses and documents presented that would prove your innocence?

OR

If you were on trial and you knew you were guilty would you want witnesses and documents held back that would prove your guilt?

Just answer the questions and spare me answering the questions with a question.
