I doubt he has a claim if he worked on them during his time at the company. He may be attempting to bootstrap some sort of payment it relinquish any claim. But ultimately it seems, if they followed some basic rules that his claims are probably invalid, though he could hold things up until they pay him.

My experience with these tiny companies... many people get involved, see huge potential and the insinuate all manner of things to make spurious claims to get some additional stake or get a big payout. Unfortunately, it happens a lot.
