Yes. Games are more dependent than other products on holiday sales. This is true. But people confuse board games with video games.

Video games sales are extremely dependent on the timing of their release, and they drop in price very quickly (Nintendo is an exception to this)

Board games however, are far more resilient, and a successful game can become timeless. Chess, for example can be traced for 1500 years. That is why it is far more important to focus on making a good game, than releasing a bad game in a specific time.
