Plus over 95 percent of the population (minus some Coptics and a subpopulation in Israel) share a more-or-less common religion (Islam) which has itself spawned wars and violence over the centuries between Shi'a and Sunni. And in that way there is more of a common culture throughout the Middle East and North Africa than across Europe.
Why? Most Europeans share a more or less common religion: Christianity. And like the Sunnis and Shi'a, they spent hundreds of years fighting over the Reformation. As far as that's concerned, not so different.
