Interesting I didn’t have that take on Abiomed getting crushed. I’ve done a fair amount of reading on the subject as an investor with a small position... from what I understand the Abiomed heart pumps are minimally invasive (inserted via catheter ) and that they have great results in helping people restore their native heart muscles and the devices are removed after a short period something like 1-2 weeks. In none of the reading I’ve done is safety mentioned other than these are very sick patients on their last legs of life. The idea is to extend their lives and minimize future hospital visits and the devices have shown this effect in studies. Their device is given to the sickest of patients so it is by nature that many of them die within a year or few of the procedure but another way to look at it is noting that the Abiomed heart pump likely extended their lives. I’ll be sure to pay attention to that one. It was none other than John Thero who used to work at Abiomed. See below
