What was telling about all of this was the final decisions made by everyone.

During deliberations panel members seemed to have their own agendas. Let’s set bar high for primary, let’s be nitpicking about label to only include actual individuals who fit profile, let’s regurgitate what we read in the media about mineral oil, let’s consider the study in a vacuum and not consider real world application.

Right before the actual vote that mattered, the consumer rep panel member made a powerful comment (received applause from onlookers) about restrictive labeling giving insurance companies an easy way to deny coverage to patients...something I’m sure each and everyone of the other panel members has had to deal with time and time again (with other medications). This was the panel’s “oh crap” moment. “We’ve become the people we curse daily that gave us these labeling restrictions.”

The voting question was a complete 180 for many members. People who were unsupportive of primary during deliberations became supportive during the actual vote. People who suggested an age cut off all of a sudden became wishy-washy about their own suggestion.
