I hadn't done anything with the account for several years. I called Monday to update my personal info, email address, etc.. Before I was finished I asked the person to check if I would be able to buy Gers. After a couple minutes he came back on and said yes I can buy and sell Gers. I funded the account. Wednesday the funds were fully cleared and unrestricted. I placed the order and it was immediately rejected. The rejection said something like opening orders for this security are not allowed. I called and they transfered me to a licensed broker or trader, not sure the exact name. CShe did some digging and came back and told me that TD will sometimes place their own restrictions on securities that don't meet a certain criteria. There are several different reasons for this one being to protect investors. She did not say which or any specific reason why Gers is restricted but it is restricted. Meaning to purchase the stock it's not as simple as clicking the buy button and paying the $ 6.95 fee to make the transaction. Someone at TD has to personally handle the transaction and TD charges $ 500.00 for this service. So the person I spoke to MOnday was not incorrect, he just didn't give me all of the information. Sounds like most of you like Schwab. I'll look into that company. Thank you for the feedback. I much appreciate it.
