Nobody give that much up for a rental (You never give up 5 years of a player who you think is all star caliber player, for perhaps a better player, but at the end of the day your also taking on a horrific contract which will hamper you from signing that great player, which is most importantly why the deal is dumb.) And lets face it the reason why this team didn't win enough games last year had nothing to with there offense, it had to with a horrific manager which hopefully we upgraded with beltran, but he is gonna make his share of mistakes being a rookie manager, hopefully unlike the last manager he can learn from them instead of doing the same thing over and over again. And a bad bullpen, if betts had three years of control I would do the deal, two I would have to think about it, but 1 it is a definite pass, I just think a team like the mets are not gonna take on that much payroll, and if they did that would mean 0 upgrades in the bullpen and letting wheeler go, and that would mean this team is worse than if we start Nimmo at cf who would maybe play a slight tick below average there, but would hit, and c onforto would play above average in rf, and JD Davis would play below average in LF, grading out to a slightly below average of defensively, but that to me means very little there bats is what important to me, Because a slightly below average of is not gonna cost you that much unless the guy is a disaster out there, now infield that is a completely different story the infielder actually have to play defense that is much more a priority to me there.
As for the of. Conforto Hit over 30 Homers, JD Davis looks like a excellent hitter who needs to play everyday, and Nimmo after the injury and getting over it had a obp well over 400 in the second half, he also had a OBP over 400 in 2018, why am I rushing to sit these guy for betts and hamstring the team from signing him with a bad contract, and give up the teams starting 3b, now we have a whole there, because as much as I like JD want him nowhere near 3b, because there he really is brutal and that will hurt you alot more than LF will.
To me Betts is a guy I would trade for with a guy like conforto maybe, but not mcniel. Conforto has two year of control, and maybe the best prospect in the farm system gimenez with dom smith but as rental that is all I would give for him, why because he is a rental, and that is why his value is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay lower for me than it may be for a red sox and there fans in my opinion.
To be honest I rather the mets spend wisely Get themselves wheeler resigned, and bring in a closer, and another pitcher for the pen, and a backup catcher (That is something Minor they need to do in my opinion, that will have a lot of value in my opinion). Because I like the core and don't want to trade it to be honest. All is just my opinion of course.
