"CE Mark Approval 6/17/2019
Cryometrix is proud to announce that the B-90 Blast/Thaw Freezer, the T-90 Storage Freezer, and the T-160 ULT Freezer have all received CE Mark approval. This is a significant step for these products and one that will be utilized to the fullest. We are excited to bring our revolutionary Cryometrix Liquid Nitrogen Technology to Europe. Cryometrix freezers utilize liquid nitrogen (LN2) to rapidly freeze, enabling the world’s fastest liquid nitrogen blast freezer (20 °C to -90 °C in 7 minutes) and the world’s most convenient ultralow freezer (-160 °C in under two hours with zero LN2 exposure to product)."
The new blog post
The T-90 Storage Freezer is an upright freezer with 33.5 cubic feet of freezing volume, which would fit 600 plastic water bottles. It takes 45 minutes for the T-90 to reach -80 °C, which is faster than all comparable freezers. Its cooling is 16 times more efficient than a traditional mechanical cooling system when comparing the energy usage to cooling performance. It is also 650 times more efficient than a typical household freezer in terms of energy usage to cooling volume, and that’s going to -80 °C!
Using Cryometrix Liquid Nitrogen Technology is what gives the T-90 its power and efficiency. Liquid nitrogen (LN2) is pushed throughout heat exchangers that are within the freezer. Heat from the freezer payload bay is absorbed by the nitrogen, which then warms up and is exhausted outside of the building. This system is an open-cycle, meaning that the nitrogen isn’t reused like traditional refrigerants are in closed-cycle compressor-based systems. This significantly reduces the amount of energy required. In fact, because LN2 is stored at pressures much greater than atmospheric pressure, the freezer doesn’t require any energy at all for the nitrogen to flow through it. Small amounts of energy are required for the supporting equipment, such as the PLC and touchscreen, but the actual cooling system requires miniscule amounts of power. In the event of a power-failure, the T-90 is equipped with a manual valve to allow continued freezing operations without electricity.
The T-90 has a small footprint of 14 ft2 and can practically be placed side-by-side and back-to-back with no effect on performance. This is because it rejects no heat into the room it is in. In fact, it actually draws net heat into the freezer, all without affecting its performance. Because of this, no expensive HVAC system is required to own and operate the T-90 and doesn’t affect the performance of other equipment in the room.
The most striking difference between the T-90 and traditional freezers is that the T-90 uses LN2. The reason for this is simple: Cryometrix Liquid Nitrogen Technology is cheaper, more powerful, and safer. Cheaper in that using a Cryometrix freezer will save money in the long run by using less electricity, lasting longer, and requiring significantly less maintenance. More powerful in that a Cryometrix freezer can freeze faster and to lower temperatures. Safer in that nitrogen is harmless to the environment and humans, especially since it is vented outside of facilities, and that Cryometrix freezers present smaller fire, electrical shock, and explosion risks. In short, Cryometrix freezers are simply better.
