When thousands of reviews start popping up all over the Internet, like I think there will be, the odds are the people that read it on the Internet will be the ones buying it on the Internet. I personally do most of my shopping on Amazon... and Walmart is right behind them for online retail
Since Toys R Us went out of business Walmart became the #1 physical retailer for toys and Amazon is the #1 online retailer for toys, so we are in a good position to be represented by the two largest retailers in the world.
It is possible that Walmart has short term exclusivity before Amazon can sell it, but this would be a savvy deal to make to ensure they have a retail presence on day 1... If one of them is better to have before the other it would be Walmart, because the physical appearance on the shelf is more engaging/powerful in regard impulse purchases than people having to Hunt for it on a site with every other product under the sun... Once there are many reviews online people will know exactly what they’re looking for on Amazon. The snowball will be on a steady pace by then.
Let’s also not forget that all of these publishers sign distribution deals and give away a chunk of the profits on day 1. We might do this in certain markets as well, but with the ability to distribute our own products and sell a portion of them at full retail, the profits are going to pile up fast.
I like the idea of offering customers a portion of their cover charge being applied to a self published game, if they purchase before leaving... this will not only drive strong retail sales, it will also encourage people to try the game while they are in Snakes. Its a powerful advantage when you have thousands of customers per day, because every game you sell has to be played with others. People buy a copy then they go market it to their friends and family, who then might see it at Walmart, Amazon, etc and purchase a copy down the road.
No other publisher in existence has this significant sales advantage. Crap titles could sell well just because they’re on the shelves of a large retailer and great titles can do nothing because they never got exposure... Snakes will not have a problem getting their titles noticed, it just has to be a good enough title for people to want to play with others (free marketing), which KTU appears to be based on the reviews
I don’t see how someone could look at this situation thats evolving and disregard the potential (not saying you are gastric). The publishing division can make this a fairly valued $1.00 alone, using common equity valuation metrics
