Intel made a major investment in ASML to assist in development of those steppers. It looks like they acquired a 15% stake out of an available 25%.

I would bet intel might be a preferred customer for those steppers just due to investment alone.

When I worked for intel years ago there were several instances of intel offering engineers to assist with development of tools for production.

Its another example of a company helping push the bleeding edge.
