If the SEC had issues with the inter-company transactions, there are many ways to address those conflicts of interest without actually selling the company. There was also never any disclosure in the corporate filings that the SEC had concerns related to Cognate, albeit the investigation covered that subject matter.

Also important to remember that LP is a fund manager, which almost by definition makes her a financial investor versus being a strategic investor.
