I wish I could trade options with my 401(k), but I can't. The upsides to trading a 401(k) are that I don't have to worry about any short-term tax hits, and I can hold my underwater shares for as long as I need to if I think that they'll eventually make a comeback. (Same as your Roth.)

For you, just think of options as that many more tools in your toolbox. Sounds like you have a conservative strategy with the calls.

I flipped that bad boy a few weeks ago for a small profit, thinking about buying some more again today if it touches $1.65.
