Seismic data does not show oil or where oil is, when seismic is perform it is only to see traps, and there are fiferent types of traps. Clients look at those promising traps and drill wells. Sometimes straight or now a days horizontal wells hitting multiple targes (traps) hoping one of those targets have oil. Hydrocarbons migrate and when they reach a hard surface they acumulate creating a dome (trap) and seismic data shows the traps underground.
