And the more common word is spelt and pronounced "snockered" or "snackered" - means either drunk or really tired.

Humph. Both have English origins. "Snockered" means drunk. "Snackered" is a word you've evidently misheard from childhood. It's actually spelled "knackered". Originally the word "knacker" referred to a person who slaughtered animals. Today, "knackered" means very tired.
