For white males - yes. My father went from streets full of horse drawn carts and selling stolen news papers to flying the F100 in the late 60's. For white females, you should get their perspectives. I know my childhood house was ruled by my mother. I think that was the norm for my friends houses also.

For folks of color it would be a totally different history.
