Mine just wanted the table set, the food served with a glass of scotch and the kids clean and quiet. 'Children should be seen but not heard' was the motto. Almost all the parenting in the 50's was done by the mothers and the man's job was to provide. I guess we were still in the hunter gather period of mankind - we just did not know it.
