They don't have to do a trial even close to what you suggest - all they need to do is run a 4 wk trial and measure serum statin levels and lipids using patients on just statins and statins + 4 g/day MO. The fact that they've never done this in the last 6 yrs since ANCHOR suggests they may not want to know the answer. Or they ran it but didn't release the results - it's not a requirement to put every trial in the clinicaltrials.gov database, and it's definitely not required to publicly release results. Waving their hands and saying MO couldn't have affected R-IT results by more than x% doesn't appear to have worked, and neither did post ad-hoc studies on LDL-C changes vs. event rates and the log hsCRP analysis showing no change in placebo group.
