I think there were subtle clues in IR’s reply to mrmainstreet yesterday.

“Many investors were anticipating that Amarin would finance after the FDA approves an expanded label for Vascepa. We thought it was best to have this financing completed in advance of approval to prevent any hesitancy in our preparing for the launch of Vascepa upon the expanded label, including a robust educational and promotional campaign”

“Many investors” probably isn’t referring to us folks. It suggests there were conversations and for whatever reason, Amarin decided not to wait even with institutional pushback.

My speculation is that the FDA has given them soft signals to be prepared. That might include questions like, “what kind of flexibility do you have in the timeframe for ramping up your supply chain?”, and generally favorable, easygoing interactions at the executive level. Having been involved in some large scale competitive procurements, you usually couldn’t tell if you had lost before the formal announcement, but you nearly always could tell you had won. Body language is hard to disguise.
