From their blog about pacemaker housings:

Liquidmetal LM105 is has passed ISO-10993 cytotoxicity, sensitization, irritation or intracutaneous reactivity, system toxicity and hemocompatibility. Additional passed tests include implantation genotoxicity, systemic toxicity, and nickel release. In short, LM105 is safe to have outside or inside your body for your entire life.

While that is great news, LM 105 is still a new material and has not been used in implantable devices, so the FDA may still require clinical trials before granting approval of LM105’s use in implantable devices. But that’s just my guess. My guess is that we are years away from seeing implantable devices made of LM105. But once that happens, it could open a floodgate.

But for now, there are many, many non-implantable medical devices that could benefit from precision parts made of LM105 and/or LM106c. They won’t need FDA approval. E.g., the housing for the Isolyte 3. — It’s just the beginning.
