Today's PR resembles many in the past...

Irelandsilk, although today's news was certainly welcome, it reminded many of us about the previous PRs where new strains were introduced. One not too long ago described 4 new varieties of insertions. We don't really know if any of those came out to be DS 2.0 or not. An even earlier one announced some additional new strains. Typically, after the bold announcement, we never hear about any of these ever again.

My take on the matter is this: Spider silk proteins are big. Typically the bigger the protein, the stronger the silk. Evidently KBLB was having trouble inserting the corresponding DNA sequences via crispr/cas. One PR implied that the labs one goes to in order to obtain the crispr/cas indicated that these labs could not produce the lengthy insertions that KBLB wanted to produce.

Evidently Dr. Kane made a breakthrough in the formulation of genetic insertions. This has allowed KBLB to create long strand insertions and implant them successfully in silkworms. The recent PR about KBLB's new patent applications strongly suggests the techniques that Dr. Kane developed are general-purpose and may be used in other organisms to produce other complex proteins.

If true, and if KBLB is able to patent these methods, our company might end up licensing its techniques to all kinds of companies that are messing around with genetic modifications. This could represent a significant revenue stream beyond what we could obtain by selling GMO silks.

The provisional patents that were filed are just placeholders. As soon as KBLB is able to do so, they will file the actual patents. If their methods were to be disclosed before the patents (not the provisional patents) were filed, KBLB would lose the rights to this intellectual property.

So: There is a reason that the PR about patent applications was placed at the top of the board. (I'm guessing TRUTH did this.) Potentially it is bigger news than the development of spider silk itself.

However, KBLB continues to play their cards close to the vest and we have very little actual news about what is happening. Is today's PR a true milestone for the company, or just another announcement about a new strain being developed.

That question is the reason why we haven't moved up more on today's news. KBLB has burned through a lot of trust by failing to be transparent and continuing to update shareholders on the actual state of the company. This is why many of us have a 'show me' attitude and will wait to hear more about new developments.
