The deal was not a money loser for BIEL or AW would not have signed off on it to begin the Test. My guess is that after the Test showed good sales numbers AW wanted a bigger piece of the pie, Protex and or CVS said no.
This would show no recognition by BIEL of the Brand Awareness/Reputation Value that being on the shelves of thousands CVS stores would have provided. For a small cash strapped company with no money to advertise, that 99% of US consumers have not heard of, this makes no sense. Use CVS for a couple of years to establish ActiPatch as a National Brand and then when you have better offers say, match this deal or we are gone.
The CVS Protex/ActiPatch products were not sandwiched on to a crowded shelf with 10 other TENS units or Knee Sleeves. They had a prominent position on the new "Welcome to the future of wellness" gondola shelving display with the 'Paddle Display' of a device. In the stores that I visited this display was positioned at the start of the isle that pharmacy customers lined up in, and there was usually a line.
