JL, it’s fascinating how strong the tradition of service gets passed down. My grandfather was a paratrooper who fought in the Pacific and my father flew Hueys in Vietnam.

I still remember how my upset my father was when I told him I was joining: he told me he had served for 40 years so that I wouldn’t have to. In all my adolescent wisdom I told him that wasn’t how it works. I imagine your father would have said the same to you about volunteering for Vietnam, but I think it was the right choice. Thank you for carrying on a proud legacy.
