That's true...but they've been "jawboning" for months without results with the increased tariff threat on the table. Just a guess, but I believe the Chinese are banking on the idea that political pressure to compromise will be greater in the US. The Chinese also have a mountain of dollar reserves to draw on. Neither side will probably get what they want, and will have to make concessions for an agreement to be inked.....I think this will drag on for some time.
