Some years ago I worked for the only bank that I knew of, that did "Stock Option Lending". That division was subsequently sold to Fiserv (FISV). I don't know if they still offer that service, but I would think there must be one or more institutions doing so. Basically a company advised the Bank of the employee names and amounts of options. The employee simply called and had the bank sell shares on the market corresponding to the number of options they wanted to exercise. The Bank paid the company the exercised amounts, and paid the employee the balance, for a minute fee.
