I'd have thought the ricer would be sufficient. After all, they were invented to make mashed potatoes. You'd have to pull 'em together afterwards with butter and cream and stuff, but it produces a very fine mash.
Evidently electric mixers work, but they say NOT to use a food processor, because it makes them gummy.
