Sunday Duets - 10 to 7:
Per my usual, rating are from 1 to 5 stars, comments written before judges comments and before I read posts here.
Walker Burroughs and Jason Mraz: Great pairing, this was really good - 4 1/2 stars.
Kate Barnette, Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo: It was abit hard to hear and jusge this performance with Benatar over-powering her. Still, she hung in there a did OK - 3 1/2 stars.
Riley Thompson and Brett Young: This young singer stepped pretty damn good, I was impressed - 4 stars.
Uche Ndubizu and Shaggy: Uche got lucky, I say this because the beat of the song and Shaggy carried this tune, there was no true required; still Uche did alright - 3 stars.
Madison Vandenburg, Benatar and Giraldo: A strong performance, I was a bit surprised, I thought Medison might be in trouble when I heard who she was paired with - 4 stars.
Shawn Robinson and Elle King: When I heard what song the two were singing I was worried for Shawn and his mousy voice, but he did better than I expected - 3 stars.
Ashley Hess and Jason Mraz: I liked the arrangement and thought it was a great performance; very well done - 4 1/2 stars.
Bumbly (Cristina Contreras) and Shaggy: Again a contestant gets lucky, Shaggy carried the performance, although I must admit Bumby did fairly well, but again not much was required here - 3 stars.
Laci Kaye Booth and Brett Young: Very disappointed here, this song limits Laci's ability, but still she did it very well - 3 1/2.
Laine Hardy and Elle King: What happened to the 'And... " part of the song, it was stupid to leave this out of the song, it left you waiting for it; not a good idea to mess with such a classic like this. Looks like Laine has country for pop & rock; sadly most of taday's country is just this - 3 1/2 stars.
Judges sent home Bumbly, Kate and Shawn and I agree.
I probably would have kept Kate for another round and sent home Uche.
My Notes: All in ll last night was more like a concert than a contest show; this shows the strength of the contestants at this point. I like Shaggy, I have a few fav's by him, but I think he was wrong for this show; I say this because his style and voice are so special and in a narrow lane.
