There's a flaw in your logic...

-if the fundamentals/state of the company at present aren't enough to hold the share price at the minimum value needed, and nothing is changing in the company's outlook at the time of the split, I do not expect the 'new share' price to hold up.
-If there is no reason, I expect that once the 'excitement' of the spilt dies off, for the short sellers to show up and in a vacuum of buyers, drive the share price 'lower'.



Something is changing in the company's outlook at the time of the split. The merger would have just been completed and the combined company will have a significantly higher valuation. Plus, new investors are buying in at $.36/share (current shares) and the company will have gained $10 million in additional investment. None of that, including the split, happens until the merger is approved. So the outlook at the time of the split will have changed significantly.
