Not a terrible idea, but not great either. At the end of the day most teams would be unaffected by this so wouldn't have that much of and impact except maybe help the top 5-7 teams if that add and extra player because of this, most of the league would be probably largely unaffected and would make the same decisions financially if there was no rule.

The thing/story that has gone unnoticed is the extensions of all these players before FA, that to me signals most players unless they are on one of the 10 lower payroll teams if they are a good player will probably be extended before free agency at least that is the way the environment looks like it is going. Players are becoming afraid of FA, and teams like the idea of cost certainty rather than guess what those arb years turn out to be money wise, player can make a fortune in arb years, so buying them out as become a thing the team is starting to like to do on their best players as well as well a couple of year of fa past that. All is just my opinion of course.
