The story has been amazing but seeing/hearing Lizzie in the flesh, er in the turtlenecks, was so bizarre.
I first learned about Thanatos 3 years ago and I was rooting for a success. I saw the a la carte price-list and noted realistic pricing for tests. And I thought it was real genius that the company lobbied Arizona to allow consumers to order their own blood tests.
It certainly is no less reasonable than a physician having to order an SMA18 (BMP) to check LFTs and then have to waste 20 minutes trying to explain to the obsessively worried patient why one of the unnecessary, unwanted tests of the panel was just outside the “normal” range...
But the entire testing concept never made any sense to me. Personally, I would prefer a venipuncture to a finger stick any day. And can one really fully equate capillary blood values to venous blood without some rigorous testing??? Testing needs to be affordable and available, not miniaturized.
