I have a family history of very high cholesterol and been on a Statin for well over 25 years starting with Mevacor.

I began taking Vascepa with my doctor’s agreement in May 2014 in addition to Simvastatin. My total cholesterol using Statin doses from 40 mg down to 10 mg has been 150-170 mg/dl. Simvastatin was used during this period. LDL ranged ~ 100 mg/dl. Trig’s ranged ~ 50 mg/dl consistently during that period.

In early 2018, as an experiment with my doctor’s agreement, I went off Simvastatin while remaining on Vascepa for a 2 month period. My Total Cholesterol jumped to 229 mg/dl, a 35% increase. I then returned to a 10 mg dose of Simvastatin whereupon my Total Cholesterol returned to the 170 mg/dl area.

While I am only one example it is an indicator of effect.
