Off-duty pilot saved Lion Air 737 day before fatal crash, Bloomberg reports
An off-duty pilot correctly diagnosed the issue when a Lion Air crew struggled to control their diving Boeing 737 MAX 8 and informed the crew on how to disable a malfunctioning flight-control system and save the plane, Bloomberg reports, citing two people familiar with Indonesia's investigation. The following day, a different crew facing what investigators said was an identical malfunction crashed killing all 189 aboard and the previously undisclosed detail of the off-duty pilot signals how some 737 MAX pilots faced with the malfunction have been able to avert disaster.
