Chilean state-run miner, Codelco, may be the next company to make a licensing deal with Sorcia and $IBAT ($RHHNF)…

The Chilean government exercises strict control over its mining sector. The Chilean Minister of Mining is Baldo Prokurica.

In this March 6, 2019 article, Prokurica is reported to have said, Chilean state-run miner, Codelco, has “committed $57m for further exploration of its lithium assets, while adding that state-run mining company Enami was also pushing to develop its own, smaller-scale lithium projects.”

In the same article, Prokurica raised questions about how Codelco would manage its holdings going forward, “We don’t know exactly if Codelco can [manage its holdings] directly, they could go through a third party, or through a private company, or might go over to Enami,” Prokurica said.

Previously, a November 5, 2018 article reported that Prokurica, “gave his recognition to the technological agreement reached between the National Mining Company (Enami) and the North American company Sorcia Minerals LLC, to strengthen the non-metallic mining industry. Prokurica reportedly said, "This is the path that state companies must take," he said, adding that "as a ministry we are making every effort so that the two state companies [Codelco and Enami] work their lithium belongings, in such a way as to generate development, job opportunities and, along with it, also advance in the value chain."
