It appears to be totally harmless to them while allowing them to exist in a bacteria and ammonia free environment.

That is not quite true. The water treatment units (WTU) process at 100 gal/min. That means it is taking water out of a 65,000 gal tank, removing the ammonia and bacteria & viruses and returning the cleaned water to the tank. The entire tank volume is run through the WTU every 10 hours or so.

The cleaned water is diluting the ammonia and bacteria in the existing tank water because it is being mixed by the currents produced by the aeration system.

The net result is a massive reduction in the ammonia and bacteria levels, but they aren't zero. That is because the shrimp are producing ammonia all the time and the bacteria in the tank are also reproducing all the time.

This may seem like nit picking. My point is to provide a more accurate understanding of the system that we are all invested in.

There is no such thing as an ammonia free rearing system unless you have 100% water changes every minute or so. Does this mean I knocking the WTU and what NS has developed? NO, IT DOES NOT.

What they have developed is very impressive. It will make a huge impact on the RAS industry because it is much better than current systems.

If investing was easy, everyone would be rich by now.
