That daily short number is basically meaningless. If you read the rules on how the short sales are classified you will also see that the corresponding buy that MM makes to cover that short is not reported or subtracted from the short sales number. Check a variety of rapidly moving stocks and you will see similar numbers.

The only short number that is published that has any real meaning is the one that comes out every two weeks, and that data is 10 to 12 days old when it is published.
